A dancer and choreographer, Graham was an inspiring person. During the mid-1920s, Martha started a new type of dance, one that was very different from classical ballet. She created over 170 dances that were preformed by her company. Graham's work was not immediately excepted by critics and one called her pieces "uncompromisingly ugly". The main reason for these comments was because she didn't use elaborate costumes and sets. She also used music as an accompaniment to her dances. Today Martha is known as an "outstanding innovator in the history if dance".

Messing Up
Never in my dancing career have I messed up. Last Sunday, was an exception. I freaked out and then blanked out. I had practiced hard so I was devastated. Although it wasn't my favorite performance I'm glad I experienced it, because all artists must go through every situation. I also learned that you need to leave behind all of your emotions when you go on stage.

Michael Jackson
Mostly known as a singer with a magnificent voice, that was not his only talent. Michael Jackson was also an amazing dancer, who strived for perfection. When he was young his father abused him and his siblings verbally and physically. Although he was cruel, he was the one who made Michael amazing. He pushed Michael and taught him to work hard. This lesson stuck with him for his life and is what made Michael spend hours practicing. Michael also choreographed several legandary moves such as the Moon Walk that he used in his dances.

A Different Kind Of Art
Art. It's not just some painting hanging in your dining room. Art is actually a way to express your feelings about something. That means dance is art. When you choreograph a dance to a song, you're expressing your feelings through the moves. You are sharing your feelings about the song and demonstrating them through each move. Dance is a special type of art. It's an art that you perform, an art that really comes from inside of you, and an art that can only be performed if you have the right personality, discipline and passion.

Dance and Practice
Over the years of my dancing life, I've realized that the only way to succeed in dance, and really anything, is to practice. Each movement, each pose or position, each expression must be perfect for one to be a perfect dancer. If you ask a dancer who has inspired you how long they practice each day, the results may be shocking. Then you'll start thinking, there is no way I could practice for that long. But you can. Just break up the piece and work on the challenging parts. Hope my practice tips work for you.
